Help your carpets love summer too
The warm air and summer vacation is what many love about summer. Your carpets however, see the wear and tear and need a little help to see what all there is to enjoy about summer.
Go Outdoors
One of the easiest and most fun ways to keep your carpets clean during the summer is to spend more time outside. There are so many activities to do in your community and around the yard. Many community centers will have free events you can attend. There are also more events like the farmers market. If there isn’t anything you can always plan activities to do in your own backyard. Send the kids outside to get some warm sunshine.
Move the Mess
There are plenty of activities you do indoors that you could also do outdoors. Painting can be a big mess and you have the risk of getting it on your floors and walls. Moving it outside saves the worry. You can always use a hose to wash of the grass and the kids. Other activities that could benefit the move outside are arts and crafts, obstacle courses, and eating. If you are worried about too much sun you can set up an umbrella or a canopy over a porch.
Leave the Outdoors outside
Spending a lot of time outdoors is good for you, but we don’t want to bring it all back inside with us. Check your shoes for dirt and sand especially after a summer vacation. Your kids could bring half the beach back with them. Even checking your luggage is a good thing as well. Sometimes we can find things that were trying to sneak there way into our homes. This way it never makes it back into your house.
Shoes
We have said this time and time again to have a no-shoes rule or at least wipe your feet on a mat before entering your home. There is a lot that you step in outside and you really don’t want to bring any of it back with you. Even after that you can take your shoes off and carry them inside to a mat or shoe rack. Most people know that it stinks getting your carpet or floors all dirty, so they don’t usually mind taking off their shoes if you ask.
A way to see all that gets on your shoes we mention in our article How do I make my carpets last longer? Is to take a wipe or a cloth to the bottom of your shoe and see what comes off onto the wipe.
Turn on the Fan!
With summer time comes the heat. You might be lucky enough to live in an area where it isn’t very hot in the summer. We envy you! As this is being written it is over 100 degrees outside here in Utah. We have customers in Layton, Bountiful, and Ogden that are all struggling with the heat as well. Speaking for most of us, we can’t wait until after summer has left and fall begins. A fan will help you feel cool, but it will also helps your carpets especially if you live in a humid area. Having the air moving will help prevent mold and mildew. If you vacuum and dust regularly you don’t have to worry about the fan stirring up the dust. If you are worried you can have the fan pointed outside. This will draw all the dust out.
