How to keep your carpets clean with your pets
We know you love your furry family members, but sometimes they can be tough on your floors and your carpets. Prevention can be twice as effective then dealing with everything down the road. You can use these tips for your cat or dog or any of your animals.
Furry Friends
Anything with fur will shed whether it be frequently or very slowly. Brush those coats daily will not only help your carpet, but you pets too. Spend five minutes every day brushing your pets to cut down on the hair that floats around your house. This also helps get rid of dead skin to have your pet smell and feel better. If you have kids make it a challenge to see who can get the most fur. Make sure though that they aren’t taking off fur that should be there!
Dirt
For those pets that come and go outside can track in a lot of dirt. You can place mats on each of the entrances to cut down on the dirt. Bonus points if they are washable so you can just throw them in the wash when they need cleaned. If you notice them come in you can wipe their paws each time. It may seem like a hassle, but is well worth it.
Oh the smells
I’m not sure I know of anyone who loves the wet dog smell. To combat this you can put a fabric softener sheet under the chair cushions. This can be where you like to sit or their favorite places to be. Baths really do help with the smell, but it can be a hassle to try and give them a bath every day. If you need a quick fix you can spray some vinegar in the air.
Pet Food
Keep your pet food in covered containers. This will prevent your furry friends from getting it all over the floor, but also keeps the bugs away. One thing most people don’t think about it all of the dye in your pet food. If you are worried get a natural or undyed pet food. This way if it comes back up it won’t stain the carpet.
Uh Oh’s
There will be accidents no matter the stage of life your pet is in which is why you need to be prepared for it. Make yourself a cleaning kit just for your pets. This way you have it tested on your carpets and can use it right away instead of worrying and letting that stain set. You will want a bucket with rags, paper towels, and disinfectant wipes along with your choice of carpet cleaner. Most recommend borax or club soda. For urine we recommend a natural enzyme to break and clean it up. This is just a simple set that will help hugely to keep your carpets clean with your pets.
Normal Cleaning
You want to make sure you are getting that normally cleaning in with your pets. Some things such as steam cleaning we recommend doing more often such as every 6 months to make sure your carpet can keeps its long life with your pets around.
Vacuum regularly, or even every day. You will be able to pick up all of that fur that got past your brushing and any dirt they have carried in. If you can’t break out the vacuum put on a latex glove and run it over the furniture or spots on the floor to pick up fur. Lint brushes also work very well and are a two for one with your clothes and the floor.
As long as you are consistent your carpets and furry friends can live in harmony and you can have a clean home. There may be days where you want to pull your hair out, but don’t worry you’ve got this!
